One of the most striking buildings to join Bangkok’s skyline in recent years is the landmark King Power Mahanakhon.

This year it becomes home to the world’s first Orient Express hotel. While the name has been synonymous with luxury travel – specifically on trains – since it was founded in 1883 – the hotel promises to evoke the same sense of tradition, myth and adventure through a hotel that will bring with it unprecedented comfort and exquisite dining amidst exceptional hospitality when it opens later this year.

The futuristic-looking King Power Mahanakhon is the brain child of Buro Ole Scheeren. It may have opened in 2016 – when it was recognised as the city’s tallest building – but the mixed-use building will welcome Orient Express’s first and flagship hotel later this year, which will span levels one through 18.

Designer Tristan Auer brings old-world art deco charm familiar to its train’s passengers to the interiors, alongside plant motifs that decorate its carriages.

Aside from its location in this iconic Bangkok skyscraper the Orient Express hotel promises to deliver the same exceptional standards of hospitality as its trains, particularly when it comes to dining.

The hotel will host an outpost of Hong Kong-based Maximal Concepts’ much-loved Mott 32 restaurant, where guests will be able to enjoy modern Cantonese food, and Mahanathi by David Thompson, a new concept by the acclaimed chef of Nahm fame.

An entire floor of the hotel will be dedicated to wellness featuring the Orient Express Spa by Guerlain as well as outdoor pool and jacuzzi.
